A social media presence is a vital step in creating and maintaining an online following – it is absolutely crucial for business success. But simply having social media accounts and randomly posting a blog or two every now and then is not enough to engage your customer base and grow a following. Believe it or not, there is actually an art to posting relevant content that your customers are likely to share and discuss.
Before you start posting, take into account the rule of thirds. Try to post:
· A third of curated content
· A third on your own brand promotion
· A third on your interactions with customers
Ok now you have that nailed, what next?
Understand your audience
Before you hit share on that hilarious cat video, ask yourself whether your audience are going to want to see your brand posting that particular content. Is it relevant? Is it interesting to them? Will it help them to understand more about your brand or industry? If not, avoid, avoid, avoid! You want your brand to appear human, but not at the expense of professionalism and consistency.
It’s easy enough to simply share an article or video, but how are you demonstrating that it links back to your brand? Always personalise your posts with a short takeaway or key point to help your customer understand why you shared it and how it is relevant to your industry.
Avoid being too promotional
People don’t want to feel “sold to” all of the time, so while it’s great to post your own created content it’s also good to throw in a lot of curated, relevant content as well. This will not only make your business look more “real”, but it will also help to build trust.
Schedule your posts
Short bursts of interaction on social media are not enough to keep your customer base engaged, so it’s a good idea to spend some time scheduling your content to be posted at various times during the week. Use analytics to find out when your audience is most likely to be online and schedule your posts for those times. If this sounds like an extra load of hard work you don’t particularly need, you can always use the services of an amazing digital marketing agency to do everything for you instead!
